It seems that coloured powder has gone from somewhat trendy to an artful and adaptable material, ripe for experimentation (and I’m first in line to cheer on that shift!) In his short film “Salience”, Brooklyn-based filmmaker Paul Trillo showcases such versatility and how coloured powder can be used in a truly striking, elegant way. Within the film, invisible figures emerge from a forest and are revealed by bursts of coloured powder (shot on the Phantom Miro at 1500 frames per second). The visuals manage to be gorgeous, eerie, vibrant and enigmatic all at once. While bright colours are often at the nucleus of overt joy, Paul’s film proves they can reflect the haunting and ambiguous elements of life with similar power…
