99 blue spheres in antarctica

There aren’t nearly enough art installations exploring the white canvas of Antarctica, don’t you agree? Luckily, ‘Stellar Axis’ by artist Lita Albuquerque more than makes up for it (while also becoming the first and largest ephemeral artwork created on the continent). The artist was joined by a team of researchers and astronomers in placing 99 fabricated blue spheres that correspond to the locations of “99 specific stars in the Antarctic sky above, creating an earthly constellation at the Earth’s pole.” What a gorgeous burst of cobalt blue across such a stark and stunning landscape…
